The Cinnamon Trust

The Cinnamon Trust offers as a free service to the over 65’s and terminally ill of any age :-

The Cinnamon Trust is the national charity for the elderly and terminally ill and their pets. We seek to keep owner and pet together for as long as possible with the help of a national network of volunteers who offer free assistance when day to day care poses a problem, we are unique amongst charities as we aim to relieve to the owners of any worries about their pets welfare both during and after their own lifetime.

All volunteers help in the ways that are most appropriate to them. Teams take it in turn to visit housebound owners to take the dog for a walk, volunteers foster pets as one of their family when owners face a spell in hospital or respite care, they take pets to the vet, even clean out the budgie’s cage or cats litter trays.

Pets can be registered with us so they will come into the trusts guardianship should the owner pass away or have to go into residential care, they are then rehomed with one of our long term foster volunteers and will live with them for life but the trust pays the vets fees and provides holiday cover and ongoing support .

Many elderly or ill pet owners worry about their ability to provide proper care for their animals and start looking to rehome what may be their only companion. This is where our national network of dedicated volunteers step in to offer support enabling them to stay together. We’ll walk the dog for a housebound owner, we’ll foster pets when owners need hospital or hospice care, and even clean out the bird cage or litter trays. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, you can download our volunteer registration form from our web site www.cinnamon.org.uk or email us at appeals@cinnamon.org.uk If you would like to have a more in-depth chat about becoming a volunteer, please call us during office hours (Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) on 01736 758 701, or you can check out our website www.cinnamon.org.uk for more details.

The Filo Project

The Filo Project is a not-for-profit social enterprise based in the South West. We work in partnership with Devon, Torbay, Cornwall and Somerset Councils and are on their commissioning framework to provide day care support for older people throughout Devon, Cornwall and Somerset.

We offer high-quality day care for small groups of older people in the intimate setting of a Filo Host’s own home. Our focus of support is for people who are experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia, whether diagnosed or not, and people who may be socially isolated. We do also have many clients with Parkinson’s (with or without dementia), stroke, sensory loss and very often a combination of the above.

We provide meaningful days out between the hours of 10am and 4pm on a weekly basis. Lunch and transport are provided which means we can support even the most rurally located. This time frame also creates significant and regular replacement care for a spouse or family member. Within the supportive environment of the Filo Project, we see clients gain confidence and become revitalised in the process with an improved sense of wellbeing. At a stage of life where many older people find themselves often excluded, The Filo Project provides a time and space where clients can engage in valued and valuable social roles and connectedness. Friends are made, laughter exchanged and experiences shared.
